Notes about Alvin Fogel
I hope this message finds you doing well. I went to find-a-grave.com today to look up Alvin Fogel specifically, although I'm not related. Not finding an exact date of his passing, I then went to familysearch and was again disappointed. I searched ancestry's public trees even though I don't have an account, and I saw in one of the results that someone from this website had written, "Please contact me; I have more info on this family." Was that you, by any chance?
I'm a 20-year student of something called the "Special Engineer Task Force" in the early minutes of the Omaha Beach landings. It had about 1050 men assigned to it; I'm trying now to account for all of them individually as a way to understand its history better. One of them was combat medic T/5 Alvin Fogel of the 146th Engineer Combat Battalion, later wounded in a battle at Vossenack, Germany.
I'm also trying to reach as many families as possible because just as the men themselves are now mostly gone, one day everyone who knew them personally will also be gone. Maybe it's too late to preserve any memories of who Alvin had been but I'd like to try. Naturally, I would be honored to disseminate what I've learned about this unit's achievements during the war.
