Thank you for getting back to me! Your link provided the obituary which I hadn’t found, which is very helpful, though it still doesn’t tell me where he died. Also, I’m wondering if you can send a full copy of that wonderful “kidnapping” article? You have it posted, but I can’t seem to get a larger size or download it. Do you have it to send, or could you tell me how to get it?
My connection is through my great-grandmother, his sister, Dora Richman Schwartz. She’s mentioned in the obituary as Mrs. Nathan Schwartz. I actually made the connection to Homestead through someone asking about Belle (his widow), who my grandmother and father remember visiting in New York, but that’s another story.
I know – as you do – that they were living in Pittsburgh in 1910, and I just assumed they stayed there until they moved to New York by 1918, when he filed his WWI draft registration a month before he died. To be honest, I have not spent much time researching them at this point, but Belle remained in New York the rest of her (very long) life as far as I can tell. Like you, I haven’t tracked down a death record for Maurice yet, and am puzzled as to why it isn’t in the New York indexes that are on Ancestry. I’m a little vague about that “return to Homestead,” since the newspaper says it was “published in error.” Any more information than that?
Looking at your Ancestry information, there was something else new. Do you have anything more about their son, Abraham, than the marker from the cemetery? What do you have connecting him to Maurice and Belle? As far as children, I have nothing except a stillborn birth record from April 1913 from Ancestry. In that record, they are listed at 28 Watsonia Boulevard, presumably Pittsburgh.
Beyond that, I’m attaching a report of what I have (before obituary, etc.). I have his birth record from Slovakia (Hungary) and the passenger list he and my great-grandmother appear on. I have more about his ancestry and the rest of his family, but I’m guessing that’s beyond the scope of what you’re looking for. But happy to share whatever I can. I posted a story about Belle & Maurice on my website recently at https://btgenealogy.wordpress.com/2021/11/03/discovering-aunt-belle/ if you’re interested. There is also a bit more there about the Reichmans/Richmans.
Thanks so much for your help! If I do find a death record at some point, I’ll keep you posted.
